This Is Glamorous began in 2007 as a personal design and fashion inspiration board, but quickly grew into a lifestyle brand reaching thousands of readers from around the world daily. Today, the blog currently has contributors from all over the world, covering an array of topics, including design, interiors, travel, food, fashion, art and photography. The site has been featured in many magazines, newspapers and websites, and was featured in print in The Washington Post, Lucky Magazine, Lonny, Style at Home, and Martha Stewart Living, and was listed as one of The London Times’ 50 of the World’s Best Design Blogs.
We were commissioned by This is Glamorous to create a new, more dynamic website. Fond of sites such as Inventory Magazine, Wallpaper and Vanity Fair for their layout, use of white space and bold typography, This is Glamorous wanted more of an editorial look and feel to the new site. The Home page was designed to aggregate content from the rest of the site and, using a dynamic masonry grid layout, we were able to create a user interface design which has that modern editorial feel.
It was also important that we were able to retain and build upon current subscribers and SEO strongholds by making changes as seamlessly as possible. Old links from the Blogger site were tidied up and redirected to the new WordPress site which is much more SEO friendly, and began to yield results almost immediately. Another big task was to move such a huge website – with thousands of images and tens of thousands in comments – to a new content management system. The result has meant that the successes of This is Glamorous can be built upon with a much more flexible, intuitive system that provides a simpler, better looking outcome for loyal audiences on all sorts of platforms using some handy Media Queries.
