A handy World Cup web app for Brazil 2014

Following on from the success of our self-initiated interactive map for the Sochi Winter Olympics, we decided to create an interactive World Cup web app to celebrate the 19th World Cup Finals in Brazil.

Following on from the success of our self-initiated interactive map for the Sochi Winter Olympics, we decided to create an interactive World Cup web app to celebrate the 19th World Cup Finals in Brazil.

The aim of the project was to build a fun and engaging platform for people to access match information and learn a little about the beautiful game at the same time. We decided to design a handy web app where football fans could go to gain access to important match info and pick up interesting facts on every game of the tournament.

It’s Kicking Off was built with these fans in mind. With a simple user-interface, basic navigation and available on mobile devices, the app serves up vital match information (groups, dates, times, venues and scores), as well as lots of weird and wonderful facts about the players, teams, venues and the history of the tournament.

There is also some bespoke functionality built into the app such as the ability to add all the games to iCal, social sharing and a ‘Bookmark page’ function, so users could choose to get reminders about every game.

All-in-all the project was a big success and the app received over 10K unique visits and 25K visits over the course of the World Cup. It was also featured on design blogs such as It’s Nice ThatDesign Week, ThunderChunky and We-Heart.com.
