Interactive map uncovering the secrets of Rio 2016

Severed limbs, disease and Russian doping scandals… not quite your typical Olympic build up. Needless to say, we couldn’t resist creating something to celebrate the 2016 Olympics, so we crafted an interactive map brimming with factual pop-ups and nuggets of controversy surrounding the Games and it’s hosts.

As our news feeds gradually filled up with scintillating scandals and foreboding faux-pas in the run up to the Rio Olympics, we couldn’t resist one-upping our Sochi Winter Olympics and making an interactive map that truly captured the wild wonder of whatever the 2016 olympic games might become.

This time our fully illustrated and animated map was injected with all of the vibrance and joy you’d expect from Rio, and features a whole host of interactive ways to discover the summer Olympic news – all in the classic Fiasco tongue-in-cheek style of course. We worked with Bristol-based Bunkersonix to create custom sound effects that bring the characters to life and with a ‘Where’s Wally’ style Guantanamo prisoner hunt and hidden body parts scattered across the map, there are some fittingly novel ways to find out about some pretty outrageous news.

Amongst all the sarcasm and worrying news, users can show their heart-felt support by tweeting messages to their favourite Team GB athletes hidden within the map. Ahhh, that’s nice.

Lose yourself in Rio here*.
