Simple Things Festival is a unique one-day event which takes place in the centre of Bristol. Featuring a number of unused spaces in the city and a total of 10 stages hosting an eclectic selection of music, the festival is like no other. Now in it’s third year, the team behind Simple Things decided the event needed a fresh look and approach. Working with a new identity and set of brand guidelines, we were tasked with creating a dynamic new site which showcased the 40+ artists taking part as well as offering news updates, ticket sales and general information.
Working with their in-house designers we created a look and feel for the site that was more in line with their new branding and designed over a fluid grid system to allow for responsive capabilities ensuring proper proportions for key screen resolutions and devices.
The website is built to allow for maximum customisation throughout the site. Using Isotope and a Masonry layout, the Line-up and News pages can be fully controlled by the client from the order of content down to it’s size and prominence. We started with Twitter Bootstrap as a framework for the build, utilising a responsive framework that scales down to mobile gracefully. The most technical challenge of this site was the automatic cropping of images, which needed several versions to tesselate well on the Line-up page.
