We were approached by Penguin Books and asked to pitch for the redesign of the The Snowman & The Snowdog website. Penguin Books wanted to create an engaging and immersive global website which would act as the authentic voice of the brand that speaks to children and adults alike.
After a successful pitch we were given the task of creating the new site in a little under four weeks. Building on our creative concepts from the pitch, we quickly produced a number of different user interface designs using a series of background images and assets from the supplied Snowman style guide.
The site required a unique combination of animation, large illustrations and 3D layering effects like parallax to work alongside each other in a responsive framework that adapts to all devices. It was a real challenge to get such complex imagery to degrade gracefully and cater for the limitations of each device, while providing an immersive experience for larger screens. Being fans of both the original Snowman and The Snowman and The Snowdog films, we wanted to try and bring to life part of The Snowman world that Raymond Briggs so lovingly created.
On top of this we also created a custom weather plugin for the ‘Snow Finder’ page which utilises a weather API to tell users whether it was going to snow where they are. It may be the start of spring but you can enjoy the wonders of The Snowman & The Snowdog all year round.
